Inner Healing Directed Retreats

The Inner Healing Directed Retreat lasts for either five or eight days. (Check the Calendar when each will be given.) Each day has its own theme. The day begins with an outside meditation (weather permitting). The orientation of this prayer time is to focus on the sacredness of our physical being through body stretching, breathing, body movement, a breath meditation focusing on the healing theme for the day and the Mindful Walk taken from the practice of Tich Nhat Hanh.

THE DAILY THEMES:

1. BREATH/ABUNDANCE: Most of us have learned early on to hold our breath. Holding the breath restricts our ability to experience the life flow within and around us. Because of that restriction, we find it difficult if not impossible to experience the abundance of life. To counter that inner belief, this meditation revolves around God creating us in God's image and likeness by breathing life into the human clay form (Gen.2:7) and seeing that it is very good (Gen.1:27).

2. RECEIVING: Because of the above and because we often hear inner accusations of self-centeredness and selfishness if we allow ourselves to consider receiving, many of us find it difficult to receive. The result is that we exist in an unnecessary state of spiritual impoverishment.

3. HOLINESS OF FEELINGS: We have come to believe for a variety of experiential reasons that feelings at best should be regarded with deep distrust and caution and, at worst, that we should hate them when they surface. This day will be dedicated to understanding the function of feelings and how they are gifts of the Creator God.

4. SANCTITY OF THE LOST PARTS: Growing up, to cope with the experience of ourselves in the environment of the family of origin, we learned to disconnect with the parts of ourselves that we found were too painful to keep around. This day will be dedicated to re-viewing who those lost parts are, and a reconsideration of our relationship with them.

5. FORGIVENESS: The wounds of the past have caused us to behave and act in ways that contradict our inner sense of values. When we review our lives, we discover that there are events and patterns in our lives that violate others and our Selves. On the one hand, those inner wounds have resulted in letting others take advantage of, exploit, violate and treat us with disrespect. The anger, disappointment, frustration towards others and our Self as well as the shame and guilt around letting that happen needs to be addressed and resolved through forgiveness.

6. HEALING: Having looked at the disowned parts and their origins, we will spend the day exploring the healing that needs to happen to restore our Selves to a new integrity and wholeness (holi-iness).

7.TRANSFORMATION: The IAM Power: This is the final day of the retreat. The point to the retreat has been to discover how the Power of the IAM has been eroded and undermined by the inner beliefs that we established in the course of growing up. This is the day for review and commitment to making the changes in our life that will re-create who we are. This is the time that we take inventory of what happens to us when we take the steps to restore the Power of the IAM, the Power of God, to be restored in our lives and take responsibility for the changes we must make in our lives.

THE DAILY SCHEDULE:

After breakfast each day, Jack meets with each participant for one-half hour to consider, discuss, work through the problem issues, explore the positive gifts of life and how all this fits into the individual's spiritual journey. Frequently, readings and other exercises to be done in the rest of the day are suggested as a part of that consideration.

The rest of the day is free to work on what was discussed in the private session. There are the beautiful gardens to stroll through, or work in, as well as the fields, woods and quiet roads to wander.

In the evening, the community gathers to share in Eucharist. During the Liturgy of the Word, readings are picked that apply to this journey time. After the sharing of Scripture and other sources of wisdom, the participants explore with each other how that revelation applies to their own journey.

INFORMATION

There is one break day approximately in the middle of the retreat when this schedule does not take place. This is time for the participants to reflect on the retreat journey up to this point. It also affords an opportunity to explore the area's wonderful assortment of state parks and other attractions. Also on this day, massages are available. There is an extra charge for this service. Also, during this time, Fred Strugatz will be available for Rapid Eye Therapy. Again, there will be an extra charge for this work.

We have a large, well-equipped kitchen. The participants are responsible for their own food. During this time, there will be abundance from the garden. Whatever may be coming forth at that time, you are welcome to share for your table. The evening meal may be shared by all the participants depending on what the assembled community decides.

The cost of the week is $495. The cost of this retreat is established by the fact that the whole retreat is based on in-depth pastoral psychotherapy process which is out of the ordinary, along with the small size of each group. We hope you will join us for this deeply spiritual, psychological healing experience in a supportive, affirming and inclusive community. Some partial scholarships are available for this very rich spiritual experience.

Check our Upcoming Events area for workshop dates.
