Inner Child Workshop

This is a seasonal workshop for all who suffered hurtful situations, such as abuse or neglect, in their lives and whose lives are still controlled by their ancient wounds.

When we were children, we all experienced events that carried with them some form and degree of pain. Sometimes the pain that was generated out of a given event was successfully resolved by our Selves as children. However, in other cases, the event or pattern of events in our family was so traumatic that the pain was not resolved. When pain is not reconciled, the child has to find a way of coping with it. The most common device is to find an internal space wherein the pain can be stored, ‘out of sight and mind' so that the child can get on with his/her life. To the child and to the outside observer, it may look like the pain has gone away. However, the pain is encased and trapped in an inner world, although very much alive and full of energy.

When that child grows up and becomes an adult, that forgotten pain often re-emerges in shapes and forms that are very different from the original feeling. It can well up as undefined depression; anxiety that seems to have no rhyme or reason; compulsive behaviors such as driven eating, sexual activity; bodily pain such as headaches, neck and shoulder tension, or back pain that seems to have no organic cause. Thus, many of us need to reclaim and become reconciled to parts of the Self that have been lost along the way. This workshop is designed to do that.

Through expressive exercises that include art studio time, play, story telling and group process, this workshop gives the participants an opportunity to understand the deep, underlying meaning of symptoms like the ones described above, to re-meet the lost parts of their Selves, to free them from their prisons, and to come to a place of healing and reconciliation. This powerful workshop at can be an important and insightful experience for first-timers and for those who have participated in prior workshops. These workshops take place from Friday evening until Monday noon, conducted by Fred and Jack.
